São Paulo has never been so dry. And not to belittle the effects of the draught on Mother Nature, it has caused a serious wardrobe dilemma for Georgia. She has gone months without using her rain boats…frustrating when you are two. On Monday she wanted to take them out of her closet and wear them around the living room, “even though it’s not raining, Mommy.”
But we discovered that, like most toddler garments that go unworn for several months, they seemingly shrink while our children grow like well watered flowers. She tried to squeeze her little toes in the boots but the potential blisters were just not worth it. ”I need new boots, Mommy!” And that is where the idea for this Monday’s handcrafted idea arose. It couldn’t be a simpler project….15 minutes of your time.
I bought the boots at Casa Tody and some dried flowers at the local Chinese junk shop. You will need a sharp pointed pair of scissors and some good glue (I used one that is used for customizing Havaianas.)
Poke a hole in your boots, put lots of glue on the flower stem. Insert. I used some clothes-pins to hold the flowers in place. Let dry overnight. (Warning: Don’t let your daughter see them or your drying time will suffer!)
That is it….a small effort that guarantees many a sunny smile and bouncy strut around the yard.
Now if it could just rain….
