CHEF IN THE MAKING

por Tammy Montagna

My daughter Georgia, at two, is already learning the meaning of careers.  She knows that her father works long hours and that, “Saturday, Daddy doesn’t work.”  She also acknowledges that I spend ample time in the kitchen declaring that, “Mommy makes birthday parties.”  So when I asked her (not really expecting an answer at this age) what she wanted to do when she grows up, I was quite surprised with her answer.  And, for the record, there was absolutely no prompting on my part.
Her response:  ”I want to cook for the people.”  Of course I loved it.  And with all her practice she is certain to be a fantastic chef one day.  To encourage her future vocation I added to her apron collection this week.
How to:
Rummage through all your scrap fabrics, ribbons, buttons and old clothes. (Daddy’s work shirts usually are a great cotton with lovely striping/checks.)  Create a charming hodge-podge of patterns and colors, adding or subtracting a ruffle or a ribbon here and there.  I used a simple apron for sizing (and a seamstress to execute).
Happy cooking…
