Like most moms, I struggle with my daughter’s diet. I worry that the only colorful foods she likes to eat these days are sprinkles. I consider it an occupational hazard–especially weeks when I have lots of sweets to deliver.
So when a mom recently asked me to add some kind of fruit to the mesa de doces at her children’s birthday party, I was pleasantly pleased and up for the challenge of finding some kind of trick to get the kiddies to grab a piece of fruit in place of the second cupcake. I suppose you could call this adding sprinkles to the banana…
Thanks to my sister-in-law Nana who painted these charming peels. They were a success at the party. The only disappointment was overhearing a mother declare they were “too pretty to eat.”
How to: Use your imagination and some acrylic paint. That is all. And no need to worry…the paint doesn’t penetrate the peel. Your banana will continue to be safe and full of vitamins. And if your child helps with the painting, I can bet they will definitely want to eat more fruit.
